Do not fear. This is not a book heavy on theory. You will learn good programming practices and advanced Swift features in the context of solving classic CS problems. The author does a nice job of relating these problems to solving real-world business problems. The author provides clear straightforward explanations of these problems for those not familiar with them. This book also serves as a good refresher and provides insight into the inner workings of genetic and deep learning algorithms. There's a good blend of object-oriented, functional and protocol-oriented examples presented in the book. Building reusable framework code is reinforced throughout the book. There are numerous examples of advanced Swift features such as generics and protocol extensions. Playground code is provided for each chapter that is well-documented, easy to read and thoroughly explained in the book. This is not a Swift introductory book, as the author clearly states. You need good working knowledge of Swift in order to move through the material.

I mostly write Python, but this was a fun way to read some Swift and see how a Swift expert approaches some well known problems. This book was an easy read as it didn't got into the problems too deeply and could even be a bed time reader for the brave. I certainly couldn't write Swift after reading this, but it isn't a "learn Swift" book - I did feel much better about my ability to read and understand Swift after the book though. Not a bad addition to the bookshelf.

Overall I did enjoy reading this book but I feel it lacked depth.There are a lot interesting topics but none of them is covered with any relevant details. It is more about the code than the actual problems.I am not an expert Swift programmer but I was able to follow the code without too much problems.If would recommend this book for programmers that are already familiar with classic computer science problems and want to be exposed to more advanced Swift code.

If when you think "Switft" you picture Taylor this book is definitely not for you. However if you are a computer proframmer with real experience this book will prove to be both resource and a workbook. I liked that each chpter ended with exercised with which you cn check your competency. The writing is clear butthis is not beginner's mnual. It assumes an understanindg of Swift nd aassociated skills. That being said, it is solid.

A book good for both intermediate and experienced programmers who are interested in learning Swift. Even fairly new programmers will find this book helpful and a good starting point to be introduced to these classic problems. Anyone who takes an interest in Swift should find this book helpful. Chapter one focuses on problem solving techniques like recursion, simulation and memorization. Chapter 2 focuses on search problems and search algorithms. Chapter deals with building a framework that solves a range of problems that can be defined by variables of limited domains that have constraints between them. Chapter 4, 5, 6 and 7 get into graph algorithms, genetic algorithms, k-means clustering and neural networks. Final chapter covers miscellaneous problems that didn't fit anywhere else in the book. Good book for exploring coding techniques and algorithms.

This is a very helpful book for anyone interested in amateur gold prospecting in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho. The book explains the different types of gear that can be used, as well as specific locations that are productive and open to modern day prospectors. I first checked it out of the library, and liked it enough that I bought my own copy to keep as a reference.

He attempts to cover to much territory.

Any book you buy will never have all the claims listed and new ones and old ones are always changing. It did miss some of the areas that our Gold prospecting club uses and some areas that are open for public use. But it did show some areas that I hadn't seen before.

I haven't tried any of the spots highlighted in the book yet, but it is very specific with GPS coordinates and directions on where to go along each river. The notes for type of gold found isn't very helpful...everyone location is "fine to small flakes". Very comprehensive of the areas available in the northwest though.

So far I love it, and can't wait unail Gold Panning California goes to print. It tells you what is allowed on each river or creek, and a general idea of the type of gold you will find. The book is only two years old, and should be very up to date with the latest prospecting restrictions.

Seems to be a great resource with geo location for the interest spots. I would love a more detailed oregon- only guide, but until that happens this seems to be a good resource.

Awesome book that gives good directions to places to pan in the PNW. Already have tried two sites and gotten some flakes!

Incredible Resource a National Board must have. I first discovered Page's "Uncovering Student Ideas" series when I began my National Board certification process. The prompts provided me with lots of great class discussion prompts and quick assessments I could use with my students to identify the misconceptions they had on the big ideas of Science. I have used the entire series for assessing student understanding, small and large group class discussions, and to fill those 5 or 10 minute "unexpected" moments that arise during the day. The prompts are so popular, students beg to do them because they feel like,"We learn so much!" In the second instance, I brought the books to the workshop and gave the teachers about 30 minutes to find an assessment appropriate for one of their classes, make copies for the other participants, and try the assessment on the workshop participants. Purchased to aid in 5th grade science instruction.

I really like the author,s approach to learning through probes. Clearly identifies students misconceptions and clears the way for learning. Encourages classroom discussions as well. I only wish there was one book covering Earth Science only, however it is not enough to take a star away. The book is a great resource and will purchase the others as well.

I use many of these mini-problems to begin lessons, or as "tickets out the door." There is a lot of variety in content and it is age and reading-level appropriate to my 8th graders.

This book is AMAZING! I love giving these little scenarios to my students and seeing what their preconceived notions are about science. Fantastic book, I plan on buying all of the Keeley probes!

In this volume I found many useful insights, as well as examples, fro creating investigative and assessment probes to assist me in preparing lesson plans that work and help me with my decisions on how to differentiate my instruction to best meat the needs of my students. This book is more worth much more than the small investment.

I like the material in the book and have immediately begun using the probes in my classroom. So far the assessment are simple and easy for students to response and for me to me get useful information about student thinking. This was a new tool I was really looking forward to trying for the first time. So far, so good!

This is a great tool for me to use to help with my students! It gives me one more way to see if they already have a grasp on the basics so I do not waste their time. Easy to follow and adjusted for multiple grades

This book should be given to every person who is freshly diagnosed with diabetes! It's a great guide and overview as to what kind of life you, as a diabetic, should start living. Much as I appreciate the information my doctor and pharmacist gave me (I was diagnosed with Type II two weeks ago), it was not as comprehensive or insightful as this book is when it comes to describing the day-to-day lifestyle I need to adopt.There are four chapters (nutrition, mindset, exercise, sleep) packed with plenty of good and useful information. I'm now striving to limit my meals to 30g of carbs each, get in 10,000 steps/day, ensure I give myself enough time for some quality sleep each night, and apply other lessons from this book.If you've recently been diagnosed and you're wondering what to do next, you need to read this!Update: 19.Aug.2018. I was diagnosed in January with Type II and an initial A1C of 10.1%. Re-tested in March and it had dropped to 7.3%. Off to a great start thanks to the information in this book and just enough self-discipline to adhere to about 75% of it (I exercise about 3-4 times a week, and after some initial discussion with my doctor and pharmacists I eased up to 45g of carbs per meal--but I still made great progress).My most recent test was in July, and I'm very pleased to report my A1C is now 5.4. Thank you, Adam Brown, for putting me on the right path to controlling this disease!

FINALLY a very informative book written by someone who is living with the disease. While I believe most endocrinologists truly do want to provide the best advice and care for you, unless you have LIVED with the disease, I think it is often impossible. Adam explains the many, many ways in which blood sugar can be affected, the frustration of when you do everything right and your blood sugar is still whacky, as well as solutions that have worked for him, and can work for other diabetics. Being diagnosed in 1998, I was essentially sent home with a bottle of insulin and a pack of syringes with a "good luck" from the doctor's office. If I had a book like this when I was first diagnosed I could have avoided the many hard lessons I had to learn along the way. While I am in a much better place now with regards to blood sugar control, it was a long journey getting there. This is a MUST read for the newly diagnosed, OR for people like me that didn't get the proper training when initially diagnosed. It will truly make your life with diabetes so much easier after reading this.

Why doesn't a manual like this exist for every aspect of life? It would make things so much easier!This book is INCREDIBLY helpful with practical suggestions on food, exercise, sleep and mindset. The beautiful layout makes the information easy to absorb and reading it is indeed like having a conversation with your most practical friend as they share their best tips and experience with you. Breaking topics down into bright spots and landmines is a really helpful way to think about the different aspects of diabetes management. I would recommend it for ANYONE with diabetes or pre-diabetes... there is useful information for everyone here. Thank you, Adam!!

This book is the positivity I so desperately needed. I was diagnosed with diabetes and the physician did not give me very much help. I worked out a bunch of stuff on my own from the internet, but I was having trouble finding empathy. This book provides empathy and a whole bunch of tips and tricks for diabetics. At this price point, every diabetic should own this. The author puts a lot of focus on insulin injections which doesn't affect me at the moment, but I still found it interesting to read about and learn to empathize with diabetics who do require insulin injections.

Just loved this book, and truly, it's also the book I wish someone had handed me upon diagnosis. I appreciate the emphasis on Bright Spots instead of Landmines. Adam purposely writes this way to keep things weighted towards positivity. It's helped me change my mindset from "What did I do wrong here" to "what worked before and how can I do more of THAT behavior." There are four sections in the book - food, mindset, exercise, and sleep and I actually found them all helpful. In particular, sleep has always been a challenge for me and even more so with a toddler now, but realizing that better bloodsugars overnight mean better sleep which means a better tomorrow has helped me re-evaluate how to improve this area of my life and not settle for bad sleep. My favorite thing about Adam's book is that it is ACTIONABLE. This isn't a book that says "Hey, just be positive and things will be better." That doesn't work for most people. Instead, there are specific things you can do outlined in this book that will immediately make your blood sugars better. That means I don't have to wait and see what my next A1c is to see if things are improving. I can literally feel better, and do better, at my next meal with these tips. Bravo to Adam and thanks for bravely and candidly sharing your story, struggles and successes with all of us!

As the leader of a Diabetic Support Group, I'm always interested in knowing what my group is interested in learning, as well as what helps them deal with diabetes the most. Recently I noticed that nearly everyone was reading Adam Brown's book and asked them about it. It was unanimous, everyone loved the book. They all said they had gained a lot of information that they hadn't been aware of before and were positive about the changes they were making in their diabetes after reading his book. With endorsements like that I had to buy a copy for myself to read. The book is well written. It's easy to read and understand and full of helpful information. I don't think any diabetic could read this book and not gain something helpful from it. I know for a fact, that Adam Brown's way of looking at and dealing with this complicated disease, has and will continue to help the multitude of diabetics that read his book.

Not only is there good wrestling stories, but great lessons in business. Another great book by Mr Oliver! Reading this book was like studying a cool business class in college.

Sean Oliver bares it all in this book froma business standpoint. He talks about running a business of passion from all angles. Oliver’s passion is wrestling and his business is Kayfabe Commentaries, which produces the finest DVD series I have seen that cover the wrestling business (Guest Booker, YouShoot, Timeline The History of WWE etc).Oliver is open and honest in the book about things that have worked for his company and things that haven’t worked and there’s a business lesson behind each story. Not only will fans of professional wrestling find this book to be a great read, but people that want to start a business born out of passion in any given field will get a lot out of this book as well.This book has it all and is a great sequel to Oliver’s first book about working with those in the professional wrestling industry called Kayfabe. There are some top notch wrestling stories in the book as well and Oliver has encountered all sorts of crazy situations dealing with personalities like Vince Russo and Jim Cornette. The story Oliver tells about Jim Powers holding up Kayfabe Commentaries is worth the price of admission alone. High reccomendarion.

To be honest, I love Kayfabe Commentaries products and own nearly all of their DVDs. I bought Sean's first book and loved that as well. So, when I saw this "follow-up" I was happy to dive right in. It did not take long before I grew bored with this book. The business of creating a shoot interview would be interesting, but the author is trying to tell you how to run a business...period. No thanks. I do not have tons of free time to waste reading about the author's opinion on how to make a small business work. There are KC stories sprinkled throughout that I enjoyed, but not nearly enough to recommend this book to anyone. This is certainly not as good as Kayfabe (Sean Oliver's first book, which is great).

Have you ever considered starting a business based on something you love? Do you love behind the scenes wrestling content? Are you interested in how a moderately sized media company can survive huge societal/technological changes? In all those cases and more this book is a great read.
