Step by step checklists are helpful for me, and learning from someone who is experienced what common pitfalls in thinking or actions to watch for. I have learned I am a dreamer ( a good thing) but tend to gloss over the practical stuff that is not as fun :) but really want to start/grow this biz the right way. While I buy on Amazon virtually everyday, I rarely if ever give product reviews. However after I ordered Susie Wyshak's "Good Food Great Business" on a whim Friday Night, I received it Monday afternoon. Now nearly 24 hours later, I've read and highlighted every single page. It will sound overstated and cliche, but this book is an absolute game-changer. There is no other way to describe it....Unlike many of the inspirational stories in this book, I actually have spent the past 8 years since graduating from Penn State working in the snack food corporate world. I found it refreshing and inspiring to see that there are so many success stories for those that had virtually no food experience at all before starting their adventure. My perspective is different - primarily because up to 1/1/15, I was the Director, Business Transformation and Strategic Initiatives for the largest privately held snack company in the United States. After 8 years, I had decided to leave the corporate snack world to pursue my dream of providing organic snacks and nutrition education to children across the world. Now 45 days into this voyage, we have been making great progress BUT yesterday we received the map for our journey. I had never heard of Ms. Wyshak before yesterday but I promise I'll never forget her. Thank you so much for this exceptional book of knowledge. It has a great mix of information that I could easily relate to my time at that large privately held company and also to what I've been encountering over the past 45 days. My only regret is that I did not order this book 45 days sooner! This isn't a paid advertisement and I dont know the author...if you are starting a food business...buy this book now...its worth so much more than every penny!

This book is aimed at people who are cooking up huge batches of specialty recipes using outside-sourced ingerdients, so if you are a small-time grower-producer of a unique or unusual processed specialty item (like I am), it may give you a few general ideas, but won't be especially useful. (Unfortunately, most small grower-oriented books are geared to marketing diverse fresh produce and farmer's market selling. I seem to be falling into a crack between genres - I guess that's truly a niche!) I can see how the book might be a decent simple introduction for recipe-based producers who hope to reach national distribution, assuming they start out knowing absolutely nothing, and it does include some helpful cautionary tales. The depth of information is uneven, and for the most part if you want concrete, usable steps or solid factual information you will (as she tells you often) have to look online, either at her website or elsewhere. The style of the book is breezy, superficial, and full of slogans and stories, and eventually I found it a bit cloying.

I've been reading Good Food, Great Business for months now. I say months not because it's a tome, but because it's jam-packed with actionable content and after my first read, most of the book was dog-eared for me to revisit with action steps. This is a fantastic, task-based education that is perfect for new food startups (and probably a few older ones who are in a stalemate and need a boost.). I've gotten tactical advice and clarity, but more importantly, I've also been given a trail of breadcrumbs to lead us down the next steps. Because of this book, I'm now following the rabbit hole down and learning things on different websites (Susie is a writer for The Balance as well). I know from my previous successes in other businesses that I don't know what I don't know, so giving your startup space to wander around for a bit is critical to finding out what you didn't know you needed to find. Susie gave me the trails and that alone is worth the price of this book.

I want to market my mother's soup - this book is amazing - happy I found it on Amazon and grateful that Susie was not afraid to share what she knew and learned with the rest of us of what it takes to take a product to market - I'm only half way through the book, as there is so much to learn - I can't wait to finish it. I don't doubt if I heed her advise, do her template work that my mother's soup will be a success.

I absolutely think this book is well written, informative and up to date. Not only is the book itself, aesthetically pleasing and easy to read but this author totally knows how to help a small business owner get their product off the ground.Being one of two people running a (non Artisan) food business, I really needed a fresh look to see why the company was not reaching the goals we had aimed for after many years. I found her book very informative and filled with a plethora of insights and ideas, with small stories to bring the lessons home. Even if you have started the small food business years ago, and even if your products are not Artisan, this book is a must read!

If you are even thinking about starting a food business, buy this book NOW! I only wish I had bought it sooner! The sheer wealth of knowledge that Susie shares throughout the book is amazing and will inspire you to approach your food business in a much more strategic way.Perform the action items at the end of each chapter to begin developing a plan for bringing your idea to fruition. Access to business planning templates, articles, and resources are also available in addition to the book. This book is a must read for food entrepreneurs!

I loved this book Good Food, Great Business! I’m a first time food entrepreneur and it was exactly what I needed. I especially appreciated the downloadable checklists for everything from product testing to finding a good co-packer. If you are in the food business or interested in getting started this is a must read.I reached out to the Author for issue unique to our business. Susie was incredible responsive and helpful
