This book brings complicated concepts to a wide audience. For lawyers, law students, and non lawyers alike. Do yourself a favor by reading this book. It will help you understand the topic better and improve your ability to articulate an important topic.

Great concise read on Originalism. It combines history, philosophy, and law Into a great book! Highly recommended for anyone who wants a survey of Originalism and Constitutional Interpretation.

Simply fascinating, well maybe not simple. The author is anachronusm. Keep wtiting Mr Wurman.

Wurman shows that we may never be debt free from the Framers – and that’s a good thing. Subsequent generations have reaped the benefits of the Framers’ constitutional design. This book goes beyond tired clichés of originalism as the plain meaning of the text and shows that originalism is a nuanced approach that begins with trying to understand the thought of the Founders, who left many questions to be resolved by democratic politics. The book’s only shortcoming is that it is a page-turner and leaves the reader wanting more than its tightly-argued 135 pages. I hope we can read more from Mr. Wurman in the future.

I received this book as a Christmas present and was extremely pleased with it. Mr. Wurman provides an excellent introduction to Originalism which includes, amongst other things, the history of the modern theory, the various schools of thought within Originalism, and a nice overview of the founders’ constitutional philosophy. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Originalism itself or those who just want to learn more about what makes the Constitution great!

A very readable and compelling statement for why the Constitution and our laws need to be understood by the common understanding if what the words used meant when passed into law.Much of the judicial and political turmoil the US has faced in recent decades arises from judges becoming legislators in robes, the bypassing of the legislative process of elected representatives in law making and changing it to a small and unelected group of judges who decide they’ll just replace the vote if the people because we are not as wise as they are.

This was a great short introduction to Originalism. Ilan knowledgeably addresses many of the components of the methodology in an approachable manner.

This will not be a book review, this is a fan letter confession. I resisted reading this book because I knew it'd be a deja vu, stepping through the looking glass, repetitive good nightmare psalm for me; I've been there/done that. I am old, old, old, but only in numbers because this book spoke with my inner older teenager in a way that made me want to shout, "HEY! Who told my secrets out loud?" Or are these emotions universal ? Are the authors just revealing what all of us know, but few of us speak? Who amongst us would NOT want to have a kaleidoscope adventure like this? If anyone says, "Not me," you are lying.This may have been the best YA book I've ever read, or will read and I'm a goner with respects to the book's energy, plot, character development, and setting. The sound track too, although I was not into punk or grunge (---it hadn't yet blossomed in the 1970's), it was authentic to this piece. And if it had, I would have surely crowd surfed too.This powerfully written love story ( no denying it, it has love at its core, albeit disguised as lust and raw sex and hunger, but it's all still birthed from a love point of view) resonated with me to my core. It isn't Hemingway or Burroughs, it wasn't meant to be. It was the best over heard conversation, the best wet-dream escape adventure, the finger on the pulse of a youthful right-Of-passage, that I hope everyone gets to experience at least once in their life. I've had these same experiences, I've had the quicksand toxic ex- girlfriend to contend with, the what-if he never, or what-if he doesn't... want to see me, call me, be with me anxieties, the whirlwind 24 hr romp through a big city (Washington DC for me), and the oh my God, what the f*** are we doing here!&$+*¢` ??? !!!! moments too. I've jones-ed out on the hormone infused air hovering over a guy as Nick, I've been high on life.Most of all, I understand the point- of-view because I have been a supremely lucky person to have had this similar experience and I wouldn't trade the memory for all the tea in China. Great writing, I want more. I live for the crescendos, the dizzy dialogue, the kisses in the rain. To Chaucer who asks what do women want, to Saul Bellow who insatiably rants, "I want, I want, I want,"--the answer is a drum roll thunder and clear bass throbbing, "THIS!"To literary critics out there who wrinkle your noses; how sad for you not to understand what this book was really about, if you have to ask---you'll never know.

Actual rating 3.5 starsI loved the novel, and am of the opinion that it is definitely the best of what Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written together. It is gritty, artsy and embodies the soul of New York and garage bands. The characters are all painted with bright colours and flaws making them all loveable in individual ways.Norah’s dry sarcasm juxtaposes with being such an introvert, confidence is a big issue for her – and straight away creates conflict for nearly everything she does, making Norah a compelling character. Enter Nick, an all-around good guy seemingly out of his element. But that is just it – he’s not. He embodies the millennium man. Age, race, gender and sexual orientation mean little to Nick, as he takes everyone on face value and how they treat him. Together, they both appear to not belong to the club and music scene in New York, but on closer inspection embody the pulse of the industry. And it takes meeting and accepting each other to start realising their place and the start of their journey.Although the narrative is witty, and such edgy symbolism is planted throughout, ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ suffered from two of my biggest turn-offs in books: the flashback, and excessive embellishment of a scene (otherwise known as mental wanderings). I think if it hadn’t exceeded my expectations in all other areas I would have abandoned it early on.It is a very quick read, but heavy on content. Also, being true to the contemporary genre it concludes in a way you can interpret it as an ending or not… you must read between the lines to get the most out of this book.

This short novel mostly flies by, except when the middle drags a bit. It is a cute and engaging romantic story with some nice messages about sexual fluidity and accepting others for who they truly are lightly peppered in. Overall, it reads like the two authors were just having fun taking turns writing one chapter at a time as an exercise in creative writing but ended up with a work that could be edited and shaped into a marketable product.

I liked that the characters had flaws and were therefore more relatable, but man... this story moved at a glacial pace. So much writing for almost no story progress. Also, the author changes perspectives on a paragraph to paragraph basis--sometimes even within a paragraph--and I found this to be jarring. In fact, I found I COULDN'T stay up late reading because it was so hard to follow the constant perspective switches. They actually made me angry at times.*vague spoilers ahead*With that said, I think the story has some promise and I'm hopeful that the whole lotta nothing that happened in this book will springboard future action. The primary story follows a warrior princess, Jael, as she is forced by her evil uncle to marry a drunken, pathetic excuse for a prince of another nation. Already a fully actualized woman and skilled warrior in her late twenties, Jael has had a long and dedicated relationship (like a marriage) with another man/warrior, Aleksander, who she is forced to leave behind. I don't care much for love triangles but I appreciated the non-sugar coated tragedy of this situation and how it wasn't just the typical storyline of young virgin being shipped off to the love of her life. In this world, there are wise women, "Dreamers" who can see the future. Jael's Dreamer grandmother believes that this is Jael's true path, but discovers that Jael is in danger and seeks help from Aleksander and others to learn how to save Jael. Meanwhile, Jael's mother must wed and bed a bad person and we readers get to experience her perspective for no purpose really. In the nation of Oss, Jael makes new friends, including one who was brutally raped by one of the story's antagonists. Jael seeking revenge for her friend is a major storyline for this book. Also, in spite of being a very strong, non-gender conforming woman, Jael decides she is attracted to her new husband enough to cheat on Aleksander with him, even after he says some pretty misogynistic things to her (i.e., threatening to lock her in a cage to keep her from running from him and his sexual advances). It is entirely unclear how and why Jael would have a change of heart; her new husband spent most of his time as a pathetic drunk. He is cured from his alcoholism and apparently this is enough to woo Jael? I just don't get this logical leap. Beyond the stupid interpersonal dramas of court life, and there is some greater evil brewing: a Dark God wants to make a comeback. He is working through a witch, who is working through her evil daughter who wants Jael's husband... and we are back to petty love triangles and stereotypical female jealousy. Then Jael's evil brother in law shows up and he wants her badly... more love triangle drama. There are some politics here that are entertaining but most of the drama throughout the book does not move the story forward substantially; it feels like pedaling hard on a stationary bike.

I was attracted to the idea of this book but not necessarily what the pages were filled with. There was barely any action, and the plot moved so slow that I couldn't figure out where the climax occured. Jael's husband was always drunk to the point of it being annoying. Jael's attraction to her drunk of a husband wasnt plausible because of how rare their conversations were and how quick she was to forget her former lover. Her evil uncle can't even be considered a villain seeing as how his only role was selling off his niece.Usually I love lengthy books but the content has to be valuable and I feel that with what the author included the book could have probably been cut in half.

Moderate graphic violent sex, moderate foul language, somewhat predictable but quite good storyline, skilled world building and solid character development carry the entertaining tale. Not quite clean enough for most YA sections in bookstores that I frequent, not quite sufficiently titillating for the soft porn romance reader. Romantic love scenes are muted, the aggressive assaults are more play by play. I have bought the next in the series.

I tried to like this book. I really did. But after 100 pages of romantic novel I realized it was nothing like I thought it was going to be; historical fiction in the vein of Cornwell, Halfrey, Pressfield, etc. it has its audience I’m sure. But just not me. If I liked this type of novel I would give it another star. But it was overly long for the content.

I am definitely enjoying this series. I am now on the third book and pretty hooked.First, I will say what I like..-The background of this story is a fictional world of people that I would say are something of a mix between Vikings and maybe Scotsman? They're war-hardened, living in a rough and harsh reality. So if that is your thing, you will like this book. It is believable, almost feels like an actual time in history of a land we don't know about.-The dialogue is good, really good. I read some reviews that say the story is too slow-paced, but for me I found it enjoyable because the dialogue is good and real. There is no cringe-worthy conversations (my pet peeve) that you would never hear in real life. Also, I think the pace is definitely suitable because throughout the book (and the series), you're introduced to A LOT of characters and it takes time to get them know, but you are able to get to know them all and it's worth it. So much more to think about rather than just the MCs.-The POV switches around constantly. But to me it isn't jarring, rather I feel like a fly on the wall who can read everyone's mind. And the stories move in a way that's almost cinematic, switching from "scene" to "scene".-Lastly, plot is good, story is good, characters are relatable, likable, emotional..Some other things...- There is a lot of angst in these books... so once you start it, you really want to get through the book, but it also moves rather slowly-This book is not stand alone.. the story continues in the sequels, so just be prepared to read more books to get the conclusion of the story.- ***Note: there is sex and language in these books. I'm a reader that really dislikes unnecessary sex and profanity, but I will say the sex is not graphic or descriptive, and most often is not the focal point, rather is developmental to the story. There is quite a lot of profanity, including the F, S, B, C word, to mention a few, but because the book is mainly about war-hardened soldiers in war.. so it seems rather appropriate to me. There is also crude sexual language. Point being, in my opinion it is appropriate to the story, but probably not suitable for your small kid.

I always wanted to make video games as a kid. I rented Creative Cloud in 2013 thiking I could just jump into Flash and do just that. I started off trying to follow youtube videos. The frustrating thing about that were that the codes were blurry and I had to pause and zoom in to copy them bit by bit. There were also moments where I got stuck and couldn't figure out how he did that. For example-making a bird flap it's wings as it was going across the screen. Then,months later,I figured out that he double clicked the window and there was an action within that action. Long story short,I've been trying to run before I learned how to crawl.That being said,when I started this book,in the first chapter alone,there were little things I never knew that add up to eventually help me with the bigger things. There are times when I say to myself,for example:"Do I really have to draw this coffee cup here when I can do it so much easier in Illustrator,then import it here?" But as I patiently take it step by step,I also find in some of the small steps I learn things I never knew before. I'm only on chapter 2 ,but have already learned a lot to the point where I love it!I also bought "How to cheat in Flash CC" which looks really good too(probably for the more advanced users that already know Flash,which hopefully will be me by the time I read this book). Not only that,if I get stuck in the future,I just go back in book form to read what I'd forgotten. Coupled with my "Adobe After Effects CC in a classroom" book,I hope to know a lot more than I did before purchasing these. Which I'm sure I definitely will!

The first six chapters focus on Flash for video - which is pointless and it amazes me that they even include it. After Effects is supremely better for those purposes. Flash's purpose these days is to quickly create content for interaction design - which is what it excels at.If you've got a basic foundation for animating, you won't be impressed. I would recommend "How To Cheat in Flash CC" by Chris Georgenes (http://www.amazon.com/How-Cheat-Adobe-Flash-Animation/dp/0240525914/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1426086644&sr=1-1&keywords=how+to+cheat+in+flash+cc) Which provides a great system of individual techniques and is much better for reference.

I buy these books every time I get an Adobe Creative Suite upgrade. Learning the software has never been easier. They come with files and detailed instructions for learning your way through the software.

It is average as far as learning the concepts. To me they don't go in depth enough on the key factors of the software. I had to purchase it for school so that's why I bought it. Some of the Classroom in a Book series are better than others but with this one I was not too impressed.

This is a great book for people who need to learn Adobe Flash. I use this in a high school course to teach 9th-12th graders how to use Flash. It starts out for the beginner and gets better once you go through some of the chapters. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn Flash or get better with the program. If you already know how to use Flash then this book would not be very helpful to you.

I loved Tate & Matty they were the perfect answer to allow Hawke to let go of the past and start living again. They helped Hawke see, living again - doesn't mean forgetting, it just means you're human. This book was the perfect mix of angst, Feelz, passion, desire, mystery, revenge, and life.4 Stars

The first book I got in this series was book 11, and it was so god, I got book 12 and that was so good I decided to get the whole Protectors Series. The author is really great. The characters are well developed and the intricacies in the stories themselves and between the characters in them are well thought out and detailed. The suspense, intrigue, action and adventure are what really make these stories so fun to read!The books are also thick and heavy and filled with great stories so you're definitely getting your money's worth! Plus, I'm succor for stories that have the feeling of real love and romance developing during the story, and of happy endings feeling that love ended up conquering all. Although I can't say I enjoyed the books in the series that focused on 3 way relationships. I found those to be unconvincing and unrealistic to a degree. But I'm biased, as I only find the love of one guy for one guy to be the nom for me.HOWEVER, as much as I loved the stories of the books in this series, the authors penchant for writing in sex scenes that were way too pornographically descriptive and that were almost constant and continual, sometimes going on for not one but two chapters. I've got nothing against porn, but if I'd wanted to read porn, I would have bought actual porn!!! I ended up having to skip and skim through those parts of the books to get back to the story! In fact, the amount of sex almost, and in some cases did, detract from the enjoyment of the stores themselves.I know many male authors do the same thing, but it seems to me... and I'm not being sexist here... that many female authors of gay romance must seem to think that to guys, love and romance means constant and continual sex and thinking about sex 24x7. I mean I'm a guy, and yeah, I think about sex a lot, but come on... it gets a little ridiculous in some of these books that are supposed to be about romance and finding love!Anyway, as good as these books are, and this author is, I'm only giving these books 3 stars! Without all the porn scenes I would definitely have given them all 5 stars. And as much as I like this authors writing ability, because of the fucus on descriptive sex, I'll think twice before buying any more books by her.

I really liked the first installment... this one, not so much. I fell in love with Jude and Lucy in the first book so was excited for their story to continue. Unfortunately, as much as a piece of me enjoyed reading about their lives after the first book, I am left wondering whether the author should have just stopped with the first book. A plus was that you could still feel the chemistry between them at times. However, it really just fell flat for me overall. Too many of the situations seemed overly contrived, and I think the author could have put a bit more thought into them and the plot over all. The situation with the cheerleader that "gets in the way" is actually just more annoying than anything... and I actually found myself irritated with the author for her lack of research in this department. While I understand what the author was trying to do with the whole "spirit sister" thing, it just didn't make sense and was too unbelievable. This would never happen in a real-life situation. At most schools college cheerleaders are actually discouraged from even fraternizing with the players, much less doing their laundry. Which is just absurd. If would have been munch more believable had it been a "sorority big-sister" or team manager or something. The other thing that irritated me was Lucy's continued treatment of Jude. At times I felt that she really didn't deserve him... I think the author took this line in the plot too far. It was also no longer believable. I also wish that the author would have spent more time on their shared troubled past. This really could have been the major issue rather than the highly contrived, under-researched, and over-played pseudo-issues that seem to plague the couple needlessly. Overall, I'm disappointed because this could have been a great continuation of the story of two characters I fell in love with in book one... but alas, it ended up just falling short. But all the same, I will always love Lucy and Jude.

I'm writing a review of the entire trilogy, which I loved as a whole, because I think books 2 and 3 are significantly better than the first. No, these books are not contenders for the Pulitzer Prize, nor are they mind-twisters, brain-benders, educational, or breaking any literary boundaries. But they are FUN, passionate, sexy, and romantic. The second 2 books even contain some particularly insightful and meaningful observations about love and relationships (not to mention several hot sex scenes ;). As a jaded, cynical, overeducated, nearly-32-year-old woman who should probably be reading something more "intelligent" and advanced outside of work (booorrrriiiinngg), and who avoids sappy romance novels because they're unrealistic and contrary to pretty much everything I've experienced with men, this trilogy cut through my romance-raincloud and steel-encircled-heart-and-soul. The trilogy shows how both men and women can (and do) act stupidly even if they're head-over-heels in love and easily self-destruct a relationship, and there are also a multitude of outside factors that can rip through a relationship. Basically... all odds are against having an amazing relationship. BUT love CAN prevail if the man and woman accept this problem, want each other bad enough, and will constantly work at it. One of my favorite excerpts from the trilogy, and which sums up the main premise of the books, is:"You're letting the fairy tales you grew up with cloud your mind. Love isn't easy. Especially the really good kind. It's difficult, and you'll want to rip your hair out just as many days as you'll feel the wind at your back. . . . But it's worth it. It's worth fighting for. Don't let what isn't real blind you to what is. Life isn't perfect, we aren't perfect, so why should we expect love to be? . . . Love is what brings you together, Lucy. But it's the blood, sweat, and tears of hard work that keeps you together, . . . Love isn't just about flowers, candlelight, and romance, sweetheart. It's hard work, and trust, and tears, and misery. But at the end of each day, if you can still look at the person at your side and can't imagine anyone else you'd rather have there, the pain and heartache and the ups and downs of love are worth it."

Clash moves Lucy and Jude from the Highschool to the College scene. They are separated by a five hour drive and a canyon of relationship problems. All of the issues these two had in Crash, lack of trust, lots of temper, major jealousy...all still in effect and somewhat magnified in Clash.Jude is playing out his full ride football scholarship, hanging with fellow players and overly interested cheerleaders. While Lucy is balancing studies and dance and hoping to keep Jude's anger issues in check. When Jude is assigned a 'spirit sister' to make his campus life easier, it's Lucy who loses her cool and her trust in Jude.I've seen many comments from others about how unreasonably Lucy reacts to the things happening in Jude's life. She jumps to conclusions and does not put blind faith in Jude. I understand those points but Jude never really trusts Lucy either. If he did, he would have been more forthcoming and honest with her. I love Jude as a character, though he really needs to chill the hell out, but he's not without some pretty major faults in this edition of the Jude/ Lucy love saga. I love that he feels fiercely, be it love or anger.Lucy really is just a wreck. She has some fairly large life events happening and Jude complicates all of them for her. I thought many of her decisions were somewhat childish and based solely on fear. But other decisions she made were not without a healthy dose of thought. I can't fault her for those.Clash is another roller coaster ride, exactly what you would expect from these two love birds. You'll experience tears, anger, hate, love, sorrow...you name it. Clash is a heart-breaker of a novel. I enjoyed it and will continue with the series but am hoping for a big injection of maturity in the third installment.

This is an amazing book! It has lots of test taking strategies and practice questions. The book goes deep into each subject. I don’t have anything negative to say about it.

It seems to be a good book. I’ve not taken the test so I only rated 4 stars. Once I’ve taken the test I will return here to further comment.

This was a terrible book! You have to be a professor to read or understand it anddd it might give you the answers but not lessons in learning how to solve the problems.

The study guide has been on point so far, I just have a lot of trouble with the math portion.

My son is enjoying this book. Busy studying to complete his GED.! Inexpensive also.

I bought this in the hope that I’d have access to more articles to help prepare students for the essay. While the book may say 2018, this is not up-to-date for HiSET essay prompts.

This review addresses two books. The first is the book advertised that was written by Threlfall titled " Jungle Warriors". The second is the actual book that was delivered under the title of the first book."Jungle Warriors" (JW) is advertised as a book about the evolution of the Australian Army in WWII until it purportedly became the world's best jungle fighting military. Some ado is made about the exploits and experiences of that army in the jungles of SW Asia. So, I expected to be shown the evolution of the Australian Army and a recounting of how that evolution was applied to the jungle battlefields. About how an evolving Army became more efficient and effective. On the battlefield. Where it actually mattered. I didn't get it.That jungle efficient Army isn't presented in the book that is inside the covers. That book would have been more accurately subtitled: " A long and tedious recounting of the many manuals, publications, and communications, combined with the meetings and conferences related to training, coupled with the establishment, movement, and staff of various training establishments, with the addition of the various units that went through the training. And a continuous and boring repetition of these factors. With occasional brief references to how all of this was meaningful in combat. "JW assumes that the reader is familiar with the actual operations that the Army conducted. It provided no background to or recounting of those operations. So, the average reader is in the dark about the nature of the operations.JW could easily have been cut by 150 pages, due to repetition, and it still would not have addressed how the evolution of the Army's training was eventful in combat. As a history of training, it has some merit -- which I why I gave it two stars.It is not at all what it claims to be.

I had waited a long time for this book to come out and it was worth it. It details how Australia struggled to adapt from the tactics equipment and doctrine of the desert war against the Germans to close-in jungle combat against the Japanese. My hat's off to the Diggers who clawed their way up the Kokoda track in their tan desert uniforms in the rain with virtually no artillery because they had to go into action before they could develop doctrine, equipment and tactics to fight in an environment no one had forseen.While unprearedness was excusable, the author repeatedly raises questions about why the military leadership was so painfully slow to recognize the needs that were so evident to the units being comitted. Repeated suggestions were delayed or seemingly ignored. Even the requirement for long sleeve green uniforms took too long to implement.Still, the Australian army developed the training facilities and programs in the midst of ongoing operations, and made up for what they lacked in equipment with very sound and demanding training, a concept that they keep to this day.

Adrian Threlfall has done an excellent job with this book. It looks at the Australian Army's experiences in jungle fighting against the Japanese during World War Two. However, the book's focus is less on the campaigns and more on the evolution of the Army from relative novices in jungle warfare, to the world's leading experts. He traces the origins of Australian military engagement with jungle warfare back to the often ignored campaign to occupy the German colonial territory of New Guinea during the first year of World War One. Then the dramatic experiences of defeat in Malaya, the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea in 1942. Australia's Army had to learn to adapt from desert fighting against German and Italian forces, to the much harder conditions of Papua and New Guinea. The book details how the Australian Army made this transition, adapting training, tactics, equipment and mind sets to become the most effective jungle warfare troops in the world by 1944-1945. This set the Australian Army's standards for post-war campaigns in Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam. The book is well written and very detailed, and highly readable even for someone who is not an expert in military history. My only criticism is that insufficient attention is given to the role of the Militia units, who had to face the Japanese in the early years without the equipment and training of the AIF. Later, in Bougainville the Militia were to prove their worth when properly supported, and demonstrated they were the equal of the AIF troops. Well worth reading.

I gave this book 5 stars, because it is really great for the type of book it is. But I have to tell you what type of book it is, to help you decide whether you want to buy it. This is written as if it is a textbook for a trade school course, for students who are entering the construction industry. The author assumes that the reader will be getting a job, working for a company which sends its employees out to do home inspections. It assumes that the reader starts with little background in the field, and it teaches enough so that the reader ought to be able to fill that role, probably first working as an assistant to an experienced home inspector for a while, before he is going out to do his own inspections. It doesn't go into depth in any one area, but it really is an excellent overview, it does teach the basics in all areas, and this is why I gave it 5 stars.

Not being a professional, I cannot evaluate whether the advice is totally thorough, but I have really learned a great deal, and this has been a terrific help as I have looked at some houses on the market as a prospective buyer. Homeowners not looking to buy a new house will probably learn about their own old house's needs from this book. The photographs of example bad situations, some dangerous, are very useful. Just got this book a couple of days ago and I'm impressed so far. Tons of pictures and diagrams showing and explaining different types of problems to look for during a home inspection. If you are new to home inspection practices (like me) then this book is definitely worth taking a look at. The only negative I see so far is if you plan to eventually have your own home inspection business, this book doesn't give much information on how to run a business. But otherwise it's definitely recommended.

I purchased prior to getting into the home inspection business. I'm a Building Inspector by trade and I'll still learned some things. Home inspecting is somewhat different than doing municipal inspections.

Great resource for those interested in becoming a home inspector.
