I got this book to help tutor a student for the GED in Spanish. There are not that many GED prep books out there in Spanish, so I appreciate that this book fills a real need. However, I don't think I've had a single session with my student without finding at least one, and often more, errors. I mean errors where the guide says that the answer is A and the answer clearly is NOT A, or where the correct answer is not an option, or where there is not enough information given to find the correct answer. For instance, there is a circle graph that shows percentages of a budget spent on various items. No dollar amounts listed anywhere, only percentages. The question asks how much money was spent on category X. All the answers options are dollar amounts. Without knowing the total budget in dollars, there is no way to know what X% equals. When I looked it up on the solutions page, the answer was a dollar amount. Checked the graph again, and no, no dollar amounts were listed. I've also found instances where the translation is so poor as to be incomprehensible, not only to my student, but also to me, who reads both English and Spanish fluently. What's frustrating is that in the same problems, further down, the correct terminology is used!Because I'm tutoring, I can point out these errors (especially when my student gets the right answer and it's not an option!!). I can tell him, "ojalá no hayan tantos errores en el exámen de GED" but I feel really bad for students who are not working with someone who recognizes the errors. At this level of learning, a student is likely to trust the answer key more than his/her own instincts and knowledge. The answer key should not be leading them astray and undermining their confidence in themselves!Again, I appreciate the immense need filled by this book, and I like it much more than el GED para dummies, which I also had and frankly, despised. But it needs a thorough technical review by someone who can check both the translation and the problem sets.
