This is a very enlightening book that builds on the authors' HBR article of July-August, 1995 called Discovery-driven planning. Instead of the typical approach for evaluating innovative projects of complex, risk adjusted financials, that results in analysis paralysis, and reduces judgement, the authors suggest an innovative approach that focuses more on the assumptions and generates the results by backing into the financial justification with reverse financials. The assumptions based planning approach is very rich and powerful, and having used it myself a number of times with teams, I can tell you that it results in a very motivated team developed plan and business case. Then, instead of using the potentially bureaucratic "stage-gate" processes for governing execution that are in place today in most companies (but often don't work well with highly uncertain projects, by the way, due more to the mechanics than the process), they recommend an assumptions driven conversation based upon the completion of deliverables (of course, this could work with stage-gates but not the way that these are typically used today). The whole approach, I think, can be highly liberating for organizations today that are trying to get more collaborative and enabling. At the end of the book, through their experiences, they recommend approaches to getting the discovery driven approaches implemented. Consequently, I highly recommend this book for any innovation champion who wants to work on eliminating the burden that they feel in trying to get things done. I can't wait to use these tools myself.

I think the book is well structured and easy to follow, but covers similar territory to their earlier book (The Entreprenuerial Mindset).One of the important utilities of this book is that it creates a far better pathway to follow that the "ubiqutous business plan" and it does go a step or two further than their previous book.A challenge for Australian reader is to adapt the systems to apply to a specific business, and in particular a small business operating in a rural or regional setting as many of our businesses do.I am waiting for the field notes or workbook to be published by these authors - I will be first in line to buy it.

Great book for project managers and driven leaders

Initially, Discovery-Driven Growth was a little disappointing. The underlying premise was not new ground, but basically a reverse-engineering process for developing new growth products and services. However, once you get over the fact that you know how the story is going to end, you begin to appreciate the way the process is laid out. It's what I call the answer to: OK, it's a great idea, but what do we do Monday morning? DDG provides that answer by laying out the 1-2-3 process for reverse engineering an idea from target revenue/profit backwards to the individual steps and costs that will be encountered. You can follow the process on a back-of-napkin analysis to quickly determine whether the project is worth the time and resources to pursue. OK, sure, you already knew how to do this. But, have you formalized the process? Worth the read. Ken Carter

Great book - a very practical way on how to think about growth.

I loved how the book was able to link concepts to realistic businesses......it made it easier to comprehend. Another book I wouldn't mind reading casually but unfortunately I had to read it for an MBA class

I sent quite a while ago a review to amazon.com about why I did not like this book and why it was much worse than the authors' previous two books. However I discovered to my surprise that amazon.com never published my review and one-star rating. The book which starts with the pseudo claim to be a strategy book in uncertain new times, turns out to be the rearrangement of the same stuff you could find in their earlier book. It is more a poor strategy execution book than an actual strategy-formulation book. It also contains a lot of 'business advertisement' by the authors like "We have a great training program on the topic", "Our clients can get a better deal by hiring us consultants after reading the book", "Our concepts are being taught at various Universities of the world so you should also take those concepts seriously". I could not find anything worthwhile in the book. I also wonder if amazon will publish thie second albeit short review.

Those all got blown up in this book when the God's decided to take over the Crystal Falls training. The rules have gone down the tubes and everyone has become a pawn in the game of Gods and Demons. Soldiers like Leda, Angels like Nero and even other Gods/Demons. No one is immune to their games. It was there in other books on some level but it was brought home with a vengeance in this one.If THAT wasn't enough, this book is about secrets: who knows them, who can keep theirs hidden, and what happens when they come spilling out. And oh boy do they ever come out. Some of the major questions followers of the series have had to this point get answered.This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the moment the god's took over the training until the very end. A lot of the book takes place with Leda working with someone other than Nero, which leads to some amusing results. There are still some amusing Leda/Nero playful interactions and smoldering moments that we have come to expect of them.In some ways, this was a bit of transition book as we move from more earth based conflict to set up what I presume are more of the heaven/hell/guardians (and whatever other immortal level powers are out there) based conflicts going forward. I can't wait to see what a full strength Leda looks like in the future from the hints we are seeing now. Assuming she can manage to get there in one piece...The end of the novel may also leave some readers with a bit of anxiety.

Whew, what a ride, this series keeps getting better and better! There is no rest for Leda in this book and the stakes have never been higher. This series is one of my favorites and is an auto buy. Thank you Ms Summers, it was worth the wait and I am chomping at the bit for the next adventure!

It was action packed and answered many question about Leda's origins. Can't wait for the next one. Let's hope the gods get what is coming to them. I have my Hope's and suspicions about what awaits Leda in the future .This whole series is great. It has had a lot of twist and turns so I can't wait for the ride to continue.

This book continues the story of Leda and Nero and their fight to stay together while all sorts of powers try to separate them. Leda must prevail in a series of trials that will test her strength and will in different ways. Definitely a must read if you are a LoA fan.

Wow! What a rush. The twisting and entertwining of characters, revelations and situations kept me turning pages faster and faster. I was stunned by the explosive ending. I can hardly wait for the next book.

Loved it I wish the next one was out. Great book and characters. I like how the story line draws you in as well as the comedy.

What an amazing journey! I think this is my favorite LOA so far. I love Nero but I've always wondered what his hidden agenda is. I can't wait for the next book! A MUST read!

This had been a library book and very well cared for. Cover edges taped to protect them. If you are looking at an older collection you do not need to spend the money for a 2013 or 2012 Scott's Catalogue. The information on the earlier stamps does change and you can save a great deal of money.
