This is an amazing Hebrew Bible. I am a self-taught beginner student of Biblical Hebrew and this is my first reading Hebrew text. At $35, I was expecting an book of ordinary quality. But this item is packed with premium features that rival expensive bibles published by Cambridge and other publishers in this competitive billion-dollar industry.1 The Cover: the book came with a brown imitation leather cover. I had owned expensive bibles with real animal-skin covers before. And I can attest that this imitation leather feels as good as a real calf-skinned Cambridge's cover. It's soft and feel nice in my hand; it's a joy to hold. The cover is stitched along the edge which enables it to be opened flat no matter what page you are at. A bible with an open-flat feature is rare at $35, and this volume has a feel that rivals bibles 3 times its price. The imitated-leather cover will not last as long as real one. But what can I complain? I was expecting a medium-priced study text and this one already looks and feels like a premium product. 2. The Paper: the paper seems to be ordinary bible paper which is thin but not so much as to result in ghosting. The text is reproduced clearly. There isn't much space to write anything down. But the bottom area of each page is presented with vocabulary lexicon. It's a spacious area where you can put post-it notes over to write your own notes if you want.3. Text: With about 1600 pages of texts for the Hebrew Bible, the text size is reasonably big. The texts are not too jumbled together and the lines and spacing are quite pleasant. I don't have any problem reading the Nikkud dot vowels. One caveat would be that specific names appearing with low frequency are marked as grey. For some, this may interfere with the aesthetics of the overall presentation of the Hebrew text. But remember: this is a reader's text for students. The grey words are meant to help students read faster without being bogged down by rare names. In summary, this is a really solid product. It surprised me out of the box. I had to go check online to see how much did I actually pay for it. It surpasses its price tag, and is now one of the nicest looking, nicest feel bibles I own.

This edition is well done by A. Philip Brown II and Bryan W. Smith. For any reader who is fluent in Hebrew, or just beginning, I highly recommend it. It is easy on the eyes, and the text is of nice size. It does not have an English parallel, but contains a glossary in the back and heavily footnoted on every page for words used less than 100 times which are not proper nouns. It also contains glossing for proper nouns used less than 100 times. There are many more bells and whistles to this beautiful edition of the Hebrew Text. There is also a Greek edition (Richard J. Goodrich and Albert L. Lukaszewski) of the NT, A Readers Greek New Testament. Both of these volumes are done in separate editions, but after purchasing my copy of each I learned that Zondervan does have a one volume copy containing both editions. The imitation leather cover is of standard quality, and I was not disappointed. I have since purchased another as a gift for a friend.

This was recommended to me by a pastor who learned about it in his master's program. It took me about a year to read through it. I forced myself not to look at English translations unless if was hopeless otherwise, so sometimes I didn't even know what Isaiah or the Psalms just said. But my vocabulary grew enormously. This Tenach was a great help in advancing my Hebrew reading.

When I first thought of ordering this book, my primary concern was whether the font size would be large enough to be clearly readable. I am happy to report that the font size is indeed large enough. If you compare the font size to Times New Roman, the text is equivalent to a 12 point font with a 1.5 line spacing. The 1.5 line spacing gives sufficient room for the Hebrew vowel points. I find the text to be clear and easy to read. In addition the paper and binding seem sufficiently heavy and robust. The words that are set in gray are also easy to read.I also like the very substantial cowhide cover, which has a nice texture and smell that conjure pleasant childhood memories of baseball gloves and leather shop. The glossary at the back of the book (for the most frequently occurring Hebrew words), however, is somewhat difficult to use. Being a Hebrew text, the book is (of course) printed so that the first page occurs to the far right of the book, with the other pages following in sequence towards the left of the book. For the index as well, the first letters of Hebrew alphabet start on the rightmost page of the index. Each page of the index is arranged in two columns. On the first page of the index, however, words beginning with the letter "Aleph" start on the leftmost column. In every page of the index the first column is on the left, just as it would be in an English textbook or dictionary. It would seem to me that this first column should be positioned on the right hand side of the page instead of on the left hand side of the page, in order to be consistent with the fact that Hebrew text and pages run from right to left. When two pages of the index are open before you, your eye should be able to easily follow the alphabetical listing of Hebrew words by running over the four columns by consistently looking from the right to the left--from one column to the next.

I bought this for a friend who is learning Hebrew. She loves it and tells me how amazing and helpful it is. My pastor recommended it for her to start learning with. I have a Greek bible that is very similar and it's great for beginners.

Very nice! Makes reading much easier with infrequent words glossed/parsed in the footer. I would give this 5 stars if it included the critical apparatus as well, but other than that I enjoy it very much.

Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope, by Nikki Grimes

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 5—A bright child of humble background is encouraged by the adults around him to believe that he is capable of doing anything he wants to do. Sound familiar? It's called the American Dream, and the boy is Barack Obama, a biracial child who has gone on to change the course of history. This picture-book biography serves to educate children not only about Obama's journey thus far, but also to connect his circumstances to their own. In particular, children of color now know that they too have boundless potential. Grimes's imagery, however, is occasionally overblown as both Hope and God speak directly to Obama. His impressive life story needs no inflating, and the heavy imagery gets in the way of the message. Collier's vivid watercolor and collage artwork brings the varied aspects of the man's life together. From the sparkling beaches of Hawaii where he played as a child to the brown, arid village in Kenya where his father was buried, readers see Obama always reaching toward the future. Despite the overly laudatory tone, this book is an appealing addition to biography collections.—Joan Kindig, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. From Booklist

Inspirational is the word for this glowing picture-book biography, framed by the fictional story of a small African American boy who asks his loving, single-parent mom to tell him about Barack Obama. With fast free verse (“His family stretched / from Kansas to Kenya; / his mama, white as whipped cream, / his daddy, black as ink”) and big, handsome illustrations, Coretta Scott King Award winners Grimes and Collier tell the story of Obama’s life. Beginning with his childhood in Hawaii, double-page spreads show him interacting with kids from all over the world. Despite the sadness of his parents getting divorced, both inspire him to find hope in education, and he learns to confront racism (“hurt and hate and history”), and is moved to help the poor. Grimes’ stirring words and Collier’s watercolor-and-collage pictures convey the power of diversity to make a “new whole.” On each spread a small box displays the running conversation between the boy and his mother, and his final comment is: “When I grow up, I want to be the president.” Preschool-Grade 2. --Hazel Rochman

Great book to give 7 - 10 year old children.

I purchased this for my nephew along with other books. I think this is a great gift idea and it went over well with his parents.

I purchased several of these books for my nephew & grandchildren. I read the book for my family and myself and we all enjoyed it.

My third graders really enjoyed this book, and they're a pretty picky group. I almost didn't buy it after reading some of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I did. Quite frankly, some of the negative reviews sound like they were written by people who didn't even read the book.

I gave this to my great grandson Who is three years old now . I want him to to read this when he is old enough .

Memorabelia! Gift for a child!

Lovely written!!

Love the book. Great gift for my grandsons

As a mother, especially the mother of a passionately conservative teenager entering his college search year amongst today's unsettling environment, I am so grateful to Ben Shapiro for writing this timely book. I've grown increasingly concerned with the unnecessary and completely unwarranted infighting within humanKIND along with an erosive tribalism mentality that certain ideologies seem to want to perpetuate in order to control more and more people-enabled by adults who should know that they are being played. That anyone is still allowing this to happen is what has been baffling me.Enter Ben Shapiro and The Right Side of History, which touches upon the incidents that led us to this madness and seeks to solve these issues which have become insurmountable to some of us. I hope that more potential readers realize that this type of information, filled with actual facts and compelling reading, is crucial to those whose foundation relies on us to provide the best future for the next generation. A generation of young people who learn from the actions of adults whose unhealthy addiction to daily outrage and the demonization of any beliefs that oppose our own are not helping us to evolve together as we were meant to.Thank you Ben, I am so grateful to you for helping to raise the necessary awareness on behalf of our children.

Kindle edition was released last night and I’ve already finished it. Excellent overview of how the roots of Jewish morality and Greek philosophy of reason led to the development of western civilization, and why we need to adhere to both to preserve goodness and liberty

What an essential voice in the political commentary world! I loved Ben’s book “Bullies” and I’m loving this book too so far. I'm on my second reading. You don’t have to agree with everything he says to learn something from him. His arguments and logic are airtight. This book’s thesis is an important one. It IS Reason and Religious belief that makes this country great.Ben’s knowledge of classic Western philosophy is impressive. The scholarship is at times broad and deep. This book dabbles with some of the most powerful ideas in history, and it’s so beautifully written. It reminds me of Richard Tarnas' book, "The Passion of The Western Mind" (where he spends the first half the 500-page book talking about the massive influence of Judeo-Christian values as well). However, I like Ben's style and application to the contemporary American experience.Regarding political speculations, I really hope he does not run for VP. As I read Ben's book, I hear the tone and register in his voice as if I were listening to his podcast: I never want it to end. It would be a shame if The Ben Shapiro Show had to shut down. I want him and his family to live a Long, Prosperous, and Fulfilling life. We need to keep hearing his voice and perspective—without all the constraints being a political leader brings. This is Ben’s best book so far and definitely worth reading ASAP!P. S., If you want to see how consistently good Ben's work is, go to his YoutTube channel and check out Episode 207 (Nov. 10, 2016). Currently, he has only 286 views on it. However, he's still just as insightful and an interesting today with over 658,000 subscribers and around 100K views on his latest videos.

If you're familiar with Ben Shapiro, then this book is exactly what you'd expect. Spurious logic bent to fit whatever beliefs Shapiro has, smugly presented in a faux-intellectual way. It's absurd that the following is on the product page:"America has a God-shaped hole in its heart, argues New York Times bestselling author Ben Shapiro, and we shouldn't fill it with politics and hate."First of all, it's quite a leap to say that America has a God-shaped hole in its heart. Evangelicals run everything in this country. Second, "we shouldn't fill it with politics and hate" is something I think everyone can agree with, but BEN SHAPIRO is telling us this? Political pundit and liberal-hater Ben Shapiro? The guy who spends all day, every day writing devisively about politics? The guy who can go five minutes without bashing liberals (ie, half the country)? How can someone write that without dying of laughter?America has a love-shaped hole in its heart, and we shouldn't fil it with the absurdly hateful and devisive rhetoric of people like Ben Shapiro. We should be spending less time listening to political pundits of every stripe and more time listening to and attempting to understand each other. Good gravy, the scourge of these pundits who prey on our fears and ignorance just to turn a buck needs to end.

If you don't know where you've come from, you'll have a hard time knowing where you're headed. Ben gives a great presentation on the origins and development of Western Civilization. Highly recommend!!

The Right Side of History is historically accurate and philosophically consistent. It stays on the academic and logical side of the delicate balance between patriotic nationalism for no other reason than ‘Merica and a reasonable argument that indeed (as he contends in the book), “As a society, we are forgetting that almost everything great that has ever happened in history happened because of people who believe in both Judeo-Christian values and the Greek-born power of reason.”Shapiro has once again proved his argument through reason and answered his critics with undeniable truth. It’s far more than meager glorification of Western civilization. He spends ample time explain how we got where we are in the West and why the left wants to destroy the idea of democracy. An incredible read which was well worth reading the entire book the day it was released.

Note that none of the other 1-star reviews are verified purchases, so I figured I’d throw in my own $0.02 for something that I, like my fellow 1-star readers, have not (yet) read:Exactly what you’d expect from Ben Shapiro. Brilliant, decisive, and correct.Just bought it. Can’t wait to read it.
